GIVE’s NENA-STA-006.3-2026 Release Is Nearly Here

April 24, 2026

Standards updates can sound like back-end work. A schema refresh. A field update. A technical milestone that mostly happens behind the scenes.

But this release is more than that.

At Gistic Research, GIVE’s transition to NENA-STA-006.3-2026, the latest NENA Standard for the NG9-1-1 GIS Data Model, is now in its final stretch. The major alignment work is essentially complete, and what remains is the finishing work that matters: updating system domain tables to fully reflect the 6.3 specification, completing testing, and squashing any related bugs ahead of release.

Assuming all goes as expected, we expect to make this push in about a week from now.

That’s significant because this release goes well beyond a basic schema update.

With GIVE’s 6.3 transition, we’ve aligned layer names, added new layers, updated field and layer definitions, and preconfigured NENA registry domain values. We’ve also worked to accommodate the broader North American scope reflected in 6.3, including support for Canadian administrative geography through the applicable levels below the province or territory level.

Just as important, GIVE will retain the ability to provision data out in the NENA-STA-006.2a-2022 format, helping organizations continue to support current operational needs while preparing for a transition to 6.3.

That balance matters.

For agencies and GIS professionals, standards alignment isn’t just about compliance. It affects clarity, consistency, interoperability, and operational confidence. When a system is better aligned to the governing model from the start, it becomes easier to validate data, correct issues, manage workflows, and provision information downstream with fewer surprises.

That’s especially important as NG9-1-1 continues moving toward a more standards-driven environment where GIS data has to do more than sit in a database. It has to support validation. It has to support routing. It has to support interoperability across jurisdictions and, increasingly, across a broader North American framework.

NENA-STA-006.3-2026 is meaningful in part because it more clearly aligns the GIS Data Model with both U.S. and Canadian civic location frameworks. That’s an important step forward for the industry, and we wanted GIVE to reflect that shift in a practical way and not just structurally, but operationally.

We believe this release positions GIVE among the earliest NG9-1-1 GIS data management platforms advancing to NENA-STA-006.3-2026.

For us, that isn’t just a release note. It reflects a continued commitment to building GIVE as a practical, standards-aligned platform for maintaining, validating, correcting, and provisioning NG9-1-1 GIS data in the real world.

We’re excited to be this close.

More details will be shared very soon as final testing wraps up and this release moves into production.
