Alabama NENA Conference Reflection – Legacy Sync

October 29, 2024

We had an amazing time at the Alabama Gulf Coast NENA Conference! The shrimp was as delicious as expected, and the fireworks show and white-sand beaches were unforgettable.

But behind the beautiful fireworks, a very real challenge lingered: the monumental task of syncing MSAG and RCL data. During the conference, a State NG9-1-1 official emphasized the goal of achieving high parity between MSAG and RCL as part of a statewide initiative. We also spoke with many others at the conference who acknowledged both the importance of this goal and the lack of effective tools to address it efficiently.

As a practitioner in 9-1-1 GIS for over 20 years and an active participant on multiple NENA Committees, I deeply understand the frustrations many face. Misalignment between MSAG and RCL can result in inconsistencies that can impact emergency response, and the lack of intuitive, visual tools only adds to this difficulty. Having worked with multiple “solutions” ranging from Esri client based application add-ins and extensions, to various other application specific solutions, I’ve yet to find an application that truly simplifies this complex task.

That’s where GIVE comes in! GIVE’s design incorporates an intuitive user interface that makes visualizing, correcting and reporting these discrepancies much easier and faster. By bridging the gap between legacy MSAG data and modern GIS requirements, GIVE helps users quickly identify misalignments and make corrections with confidence.

Stay tuned for more on this game-changer. But be warned: GIVE might just be the most addictive solution in the GIS toolkit! 😊
